PAST EVENT: Tu 11/13: BloomScreen presents: The Journey of Cape Verde

Tuesday, November 13th at 7:00 pm

The Journey of Cape Verde (In Search of Identity) (2004, 83 min), produced and directed by Guenny K. Pires, is an award-winning documentary film that explores issues of culture, identity and community in Cape Verde.

This documentary discusses and reflects on the question of identity through a series of journeys to the islands of Cape Verde, the first slave port of West Africa, whose many mixed race inhabitants have migrated and formed communities in the US, Africa and Europe.

This timely film raises questions about race, ethnicity, culture, Diaspora, trans-nationalism, globalization and critically assesses the values of identity, ritual, tradition, poetry, music, and gastronomy. Narrated in Creole, English, Portuguese, and French (with English subtitles).

Our film will be followed by Q&A with director Guenny K. Pires, live via Skype.
