Join BloomBars for a stunningly honest movie about race relations in the 1960’s… This favorite film of Malcolm X is, refreshingly, free of today’s historical revisionism, sugarcoating and whitewashing…
Nothing But a Man (1964, 95 min), by Michael Roemer – tells the story of a black railroad worker who falls in love with the town’s preacher’s daughter and tries to maintain his respect in the white racist South in the early 1960s. The story depicts their struggle to find a “meaningful place” in their society. Ivan Dixon and Abbey Lincoln star in this painfully honest, enormously moving drama about African-American life in the South.
The screening will be followed by audience discussion and Q&A.
