PAST EVENT: Tu 8/14: BloomScreen presents: The Last Flight of the Flamingo

Tuesday, August 14th at 7:00 pm

The Last Flight of the Flamingo (O Último Vôo do Flamingo) (2010, 90 min), by João Ribeiro.  A UN investigator is sent to a small village in Mozambique to investigate the mysterious deaths of five UN peacekeeper soldiers.  (Based on a novel by renowned Mozambican writer, Mia Couto).

In the village of Tizangara, UN Blue Helmets work as peacekeepers after years of civil war.  Five explosions kill five soldiers; only their helmets and their phalluses are left.  Massimo Risi, an Italian Lieutenant posted in Maputo, Mozambique’s capital, arrives in the village in order to investigate the events.  Assisted by Joaquim, a local translator, Massimo starts the enquiry and soon discovers that not everything is what it appears to be. (Portuguese w/ English subtitles). (Warning: brief nudity).
