May 15 through July 3rd
In a world of rapid mass-production, DC-based artist Marina Bijelic’s whimsical mixed-media illustrated works evoke a return to a slower, earth-connected existence drawing inspiration from the natural environment. The artist looks to her work as an escape from contemporary society, and creates her art to keep humanity connected and aware of the majestic power of animals, trees, and all things created by Mother Earth.
In The Beauty of Creation, opening May 15th at The Gallery @BloomBars, Marina Bijelic presents an exhibition featuring acrylic paintings on canvas, watercolor-and-ink works assembled through a mixed-media process unique to the artist, digital prints, and a combination of patterns and textiles of designs using only organic shapes. As an early childhood arts education teacher, she has also created a book (and accompanying coloring book), Atypical Animal Alphabet, highlighting an assortment of “atypical” animals from around the world to introduce to children and adults from A to Z. The book will also be available for sale at BloomBars, with a reading and book-signing by the artist throughout the run of her exhibition.
Marina Bijelic is an artist, illustrator, and creative from Washington DC. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History at Virginia Commonwealth University. Raised in Croatia, Canada, and the United States, she uses her travels to relate patterns and colors she applies to her work.
