Every Monday starting, April 26th from 6:45-7:45pm, you can learn from the best – Marta Vizueta Bohorquez, one of the most sought-after instructors in the D.C., area joins the BloomBars’ family. Suggested Donation: $10
Recognized for her versatility and unique and extensive training, she has undertaken studies in oriental (American cabaret & Egyptian), and tribal styles (Jamila Salimpour format, Fat Chance ATS & tribal fusion) with nationally and internationally acclaimed master teachers. Apart from her belly dance concentration, she is also a dedicated flamenco student, continuing her studies locally and at the Amor de Dios Academy in Madrid.

A nurturing and demanding instructor, Marta approaches teaching from a
holistic perspective, emphasizing technique, stylization, and musical
interpretation. With a clear historical and cultural foundation, she
invites more advanced students to fuse their own styles, where
appropriate, allowing for the exploration of each one’s unique voice.
Through her own independent studies and her certified doula/labor assistant work (ALACE & The Farm Midwives), she brings knowledge of women’s health into her teaching; currently also working to finish a curriculum that incorporates childbirth education and belly dance for mothers-to-be. Lastly, Marta is committed to using dance and other forms of creative movement in her work with low-income communities of color (in the U.S. and Latin America) to support engagement, healing, leadership, and skills development among women, teens and girls. To this end, she actively volunteered for over 3 years at the Sitar Center for the Arts in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of D.C., and recently finished her first month-long project in Lima, Peru. She will be traveling throughout 2010 putting the finishing touches to this new vision.

Wear: Comfortable, yoga type pant and top, not too baggy as I need to be able to see your body to determine correct posture, etc. Bare feet (encouraged), leg warmers or soft soled dance shoes (it may be too slippery for socks). If you bring a skirt, please try to put it on after the warm-up. Any medium/long hip scarf will be perfect except those with glass beading. Bring a water bottle, yoga mat, and finger cymbals, if you own a pair. I hope to have finger cymbals to share with the class soon. Please note: If you are a low-intermediate+ level dancer seeking a particular format and teaching style, i strongly encourage you to attend my other classes (dates/location to be announced soon!).
