The purpose of this workshop is to introduce all genres of creative entrepreneurs to the concept of financial planning. The workshop will provide a brief traditional overview of financial planning and then transition into discussing a financial planning process that has been formulated specifically for creative and/or self-employed professionals. By the end of this workshop, participants will be empowered to take control of their financial lifestyles, and have the necessary skills to develop financial plans that support their specific goals as an artist and /or creative entrepreneur.
Outline:
- Overview of workshop – Group introductions (depending on how large the group is) and question/prompt about challenges to managing finances as a C/E – Overview & dialogue about the traditional financial planning process and why it doesn’t always wok for C/E – Introduction to the EAB approach: Awareness, Recovery, Rebuilding, and Generating Wealth and how this process can be used to empower each individual to begin the process of creating financial stability from their creative endeavors. – Activity: “Phantom Millions” “My Personal Net Worth” and “My Real Goals”.

I use my talents, skills and abilities in financial and business planning to help creative people become successful and financially independent creative entrepreneurs. EVELYN BANDOH, the founder of EAB Creative Planning Services, has over 8 years of experience in business and financial training, consulting, management and personal financial coaching. Evelyn helps creative businesses and entrepreneurs maintain sustainable enterprises by providing training, advising and coaching services. She also facilitates personal finance and small business workshops throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area and publishes a blog called Fiscally Fit Fashionista, where she provides practical business and financial advice to her readers. Evelyn also teaches financial, business and investment education to youth in the DC Metropolitan Area and teaches at the Art Institute of Washington in the Fashion and Retail Management Program.

Bio Anne Pellicciotto, a native of Washington, DC, rediscovered her eye on a sabbatical in 2006 to NE Brazil; and since that time she has devoted much energy to arts and social action. With her work, Anne seeks to evoke a sense of balance and assurance in a world of uncertainty. Her photographs have earned her a number of awards. ‘Canoa Kids’ gained first prize in The Washington Post Travel Photo Contest for 2006, first in the International Visions Gallery ‘America in Focus’ contest in Washington, DC in December 2006, and runner-up in National Geographic Adventure’s Wide-Angle Lens Contest 2007, among others. She has exhibited at the Watergate Gallery, Int’l Vision, and held a solo show at the Brazilian American Cultural Institute in Washington, DC, as well as Manjericão Gallery in João Pessoa, Paraίba, Brazil. Sunday, April 25th, 2010 — 6:00 to 9:00pm ~ A Thousand Blooms ~ is a photo exhibition/ custom-tees catwalk modeling/ short films screening event to celebrate the liberating, redemptive, and galvanizing “thousand blooms” power of love for humanity through artistic expressions that affirm human rights, heal injustices, and breach cultural, societal and religious divides.

PROGRAM:
* Catwalk Modeling of Love Is Love Tees, a custom designed and cut series of tee-shirts featuring arts images of gay, lesbian, and interfaith & interracial couples. Portion of the proceeds from their sales go to support and promote these “minority” relationships
* Arts photo exhibition from the True Beauty – Young Womanhood in DC photobok project (www.truebeautydc.org) that profiles through images and stories the inner beauties and humanistic sensibilities of modern womanhood in Washington DC
* Screening of Arthouse Short Films and Q&A Panel with Richard Chu, their writer/director and co-producer: “Return of the Cicadas” about the spiritual redemption of a Vietnam War vet and the Amerisian daughter he abandoned; “Eros” about how three Asian, White, and Black couples affirm their cross-cultural and sexual identities by liberating themselves from cultural and societal constraints; “The Wish of Harriet” about how a Iraq War Vet suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome redeems his life and reclaims his family by making the wish of Harriet, a African American orphan girl come true
Seed the Sound Sunday (An acoustic jam session with music from a diversity of genres), will follow “A Thousand Blooms” at 9:00pm. Artist in Bloom Resident Fellows Terrence Cunningham and Carolyn Malachi will headline the inspirational evening

- Bloggers to write about BloomBars events – Bloggers/researchers to find/write articles and information about artists doing good work in their communities. – Yelpers to yelp about BloomBars – Greeters – Scouts to bring in artists – Programmers- folks who are interested in designing, organizing, implementing, coordinating, etc. events from start to finish with help from a BloomBars staff member. – Curators for film night- getting clearance rights to view films; we also need a person to run Sunrise Cinema (2-6AM Sundays) “Why Drive When You Can Watch Movies Till Sunrise – You’ll be saving lives by keeping people who shouldn’t be driving off the road! – Outreach – people to print and pass out fliers about events – Sales people- to help get ads and sponsors for events – Electricians – we need heat and electrical outlets for upstairs – Contractors – We need a wheelchair ramp and a fire exit door. Help! – Video editors – to help edit all the footage we have of events – Sound people – to help run the sound board during events (prior knowledge a plus, but also willing to teach) – Educators- folks who can give workshops/training sessions such as financial literacy, yoga, social networking, etc.

Marilyn Horowitz is a NYU professor, writer, producer, writing coach, and script doctor. She won the New York University Award for Teaching Excellence in 2004. Marilyn hosts two seminars per year on the “Creative Business of Screenwriting” for New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT). Marilyn was the script consultant and associate producer on The Reawakening, an independent feature film produced under the auspices of the ABC New Talent Development Scholarship Grant.
Marilyn’s private writing students have gone on to sell scripts to Miramax, HBO, Hallmark Entertainment, and ABC, as well as gained admittance to theAFI Graduate Writing Program, Sundance Writers Lab, and the IFP Market’s No Borders Forum. Marilyn’s students have also won the 2002 and 2003 NYWIFT Screenplay Contests, placed highly in the Nicholl Fellowship, and were finalists in the Slamdance Film Festival and Austin Film Festival script competitions.
