[Press] The Heights Life: Bloom Bars Blooming on Sunday

The Heights Life

BloomBars will be hosting one of their very well-received events on Sunday. For more information you can visit them online, or head over to 11th just north of Kenyon between 7:30 and 9:30PM.

Details:

Continuing in the BloomBars’ tradition to nurture the growth of artists who use their gift to inspire service, build community, and establish meaningful human connections, Seed the Sound Sundays with Sitali will showcase musicians from a diversity of genres. Our featured cause for the evening: KUSH (visit their website kushworld.org). Also, we’re proud to announce that National Sound has come on board as a sponsor! Watch out, we might soon be one of the best acoustic venues in town.

Seed the Sound Sundays is the first project for Artist-In-Bloom resident Sitali Siyolwe. The singer, songwriter, and guitarist spent his childhood crisscrossing the globe with stops in Egypt, Russia, and England. At the age of 13, Sitali had his first recording session with veteran producer Glynn Johns (of Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones fame). After stints in New York and Seattle, Sitali settled in Washington DC, where he formed the band christened with his name in 2005. Their forthcoming release “Aluta Continua” will arrive in Spring 2009.

"Please Take A Number" Preview Party

nia2-1

NAACP AWARD WINNER’S PLEASE TAKE A NUMBER

PREVIEW PARTY ON THURSDAY, MARCH 5TH !

“This lady’s range knocked my socks off! I haven’t seen a one woman show like this since Carrie Fisher and Whoopi Goldberg. I can’t wait to see Nia again and again and again.” -Quincy Jones

Economic struggles meet comedy, the comedic self-help guru puts her audience on welfare and into “the system” as they wait for services. Ms. Orms seamlessly transforms into desperate and hilarious characters, captive in a New York City welfare office waiting for their number to be called. She hypnotizes the audience as each character reveals what they really hope to prove, which is that they are not just another number in the system. All who attend the show; privileged or in need, are encouraged to help by donating whatever they can. A portion of the proceeds from “Please Take a Number” go directly to Women for Women International, an organization with a track record of helping thousands of female survivors of war, www.WomenForWomen.org.

Seed the Sound – Greetings from Sitali

stss-banner-luna

Greetings Bloom supporters. My name is Sitali. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of you at the 6th Bloom—my introductory BloomBars’ experience. What I thought would be just another acoustic gig has turned into a partnership and artist-in-residency that we hope will not only inspire beautiful music, but also bring people from all corners of the world together around issues of social justice, self empowerment, and community activism.

For those I haven’t yet had a chance to meet, let me tell you a little about myself. As the son of diplomats, I spent most of my childhood traveling the globe. Listening to the sounds and rhythms of other cultures has had a profound impact on me since I started making music at an early age. From rock, soul, blues, world music, and even blue grass…I play it all. And now you can hear it all every week with Seed The Sound Sundays.

As an artist, finding a performance space without commercial attachment and emphasis on providing the artist with the best possible tools available is rare. That’s why I’m so excited that me dear friends at National Sound have come on board as a supporter. That’s right, we’re going to have some the best sound and lighting techs in the biz – music to the musician’s ear.  Now I know why BloomBars has so many people excited. The possibilities are endless. The field has been built. Will they come? I hope you will. You’ll be watching my bloom. Our Bloom.

BloomBars Presents Ayanna Gregory & Free

BloomBars Presents Ayanna Gregory & Free

One of the most relevant and beautiful (Obama) songs of this time. An Ayanna Gregory original, this was supposedly a work in progress (see Ayanna’s cheat sheet on her lap), written just before the election, but not sure how it could get much better. Ayanna and Free have done it again. Please support them. Visit Ayanna and “Free” aka Yvette Benjamin at their respective websites.
